Making a living over the phone can be very difficult and extremely trying at times.  Not only are you likely to be dealing with dis-interested or angry customers and potential customers, but you will be constantly battling against the tangled phone wire cord.

Picking up and putting the phone down numerous times a day can be very repetitive, difficult, and stressful.  It is also inefficient and time consuming.  For light phone users using a handset is not such a big deal, however for sales people, shared service centre staff and call centre staff, then it can be extremely annoying.

Telephone headsets provide a solution to this everyday annoyance.  And after all, having to hands to work your magic on the computer whilst talking on the telephone is certainly better than having one or getting a stiff neck from attempting to balance the phone between your ear and shoulder.

Since call centres were developed, the telephone headset has been in existence.  However headsets were not always as easy and convenient to use.  In fact, when they were first implemented, installing the devices was a difficulty.

The biggest issue in these early days was activating the hook switch to answer a call.  A base unit was installed between the handset and the headset, and to connect a call via the telephone headset you had to firstly pick up the handset and leave it off the hook on your desk to activate the headset.

Clearly this is not the ideal situation, and over time headsets evolved and became easier to use, more efficient and more effective.  The best telephone headsets available now operate with the touch of a button.  This makes life much easier for those employees who use the telephone constantly on a daily basis.
